What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Gotta put one of these in the camping trailer I built, you got a link for that one?
I do…..

Got the tank out this morning with a lot of pounding on wedges before the foam seperated from the hull. The good news is the tank should be fine once I clean it up,remove all the foam and set it on new small stringers. The main stringers are all good as I suspected,I'll gelcoat the whole area once the new stringers are glassed in.Anybody have an idea of what coating to seal the aluminum tank with? Epoxy?

I do…..

Awesome, just ordered one. Was thinking of spending $200 on one during “prime” days, but usually that’s a scam. Glad I waited.

Pics of the trailer added. I gotta put a new axle in it. I got a 2200 lb torsion axle for free when I built it, and the 31” tires were a bit too much for the tiny spindles, which are now bent, and cause the wheels to camber in a bunch. Got a 3500 leaf sprung unit going in, but I gotta fab and weld in some new mounting points on the frame.

Not boat related, but once I get this done I can start doing work on my boat. Have been putting it off al year lol.

Picked up an AGM starting battery, hopefully a little better for running the stove off it then the regular one that was due for a swap anyways.
One of my fishing partners is an electrical engineer, and that’s what he suggests that I switch to this winter. He sent me a litany of reasons why, but because I only run one battery, he really thinks it would be the way to go.

Yeah, since another member asked it’s an AGM absorbed glass matt with the right cold cranking amps for my engine and a deep cycle. The idea is you can draw them down more then a regular deep cycle and maintain voltage.

Costco has a slightly better deal on them, than can tire but you have to order online. This was used once for an electric motorized foil canoe project so only 150$. Regular about $300. (I’ll get you guys a video, Uvic engineering project)

I have to long a run to my house battery for my wallas stove/heater fan so want something robust for it to run throughout the night and still allow the boat to start in the morning. I’d have gone lithium but a good starting one is pricy https://dakotalithium.com/product/d..._dglKB-56nV3vqTyymQARHv1FpEHp2CBoC6UoQAvD_BwE

And they can charge up to 5 times faster. I have AGM house batteries and they come back up to 100% really quick
Just need to make sure your charger is set for AGM

Yeah went for a Victron charger for both shore power and solar when I replaced a bunch of wiring and add a extra bus bar. Still have to install the solar. Trying to get everything up to close to your level but by then you’ll have switch to lithium!

Out of the slip. Good power spray on the bottom. Put her in winter home. Winterize and a couple of small projects over the next month. Ordered all new rocker switch covers from New Wire, they should be here in a couple of days.

Let us know how that goes. It's on my list for my 2870 as well. thx

Not to the boat but to the truck to tow the boat - did a 2 Low mod yesterday. Since I have to back the boat up a pretty steep driveway, with a couple turns in the process, I can now flip a switch in the truck and override the automatic engagement of my front hubs. So I can use the low gearing of 4 low, without worrying about binding up the steering on dry pavement, and put less strain on the transmission. Haven't actually moved the boat with it yet but tested it out. My neighbours probably thought I lost it, backing up and down my driveway for no visible reason.

Found out today that my old tank in my project Searay isn't worth repairing ,so it's getting a new one.Something for anyone to consider when thinking of restoring or podding an older boat is the rising costs of everything . Better to pay more for a boat that is all done,if you can find one used.

Are you going to build the new one out of alloy? I assume. I’m looking at Pursuits to replace my Grady but most need tanks replaced I’ve read. Any idea on cost?

It will be 3/16 aluminum, will outlast my or a younger persons lifetime I'm told.It will run in the $1400-$1800 range.Plus I'll replace the filler fitting, fuel and vent hoses. No labour cuz I don't get paid.My Grady has a plastic/composite tank, maybe newer Pursuits do too.

Here ya go! New Wire was great to deal with. My only gripe with the 2870 is where they mount the accessory switches, under the helm by your knees. Really hard to see and operate when running, especially when dark or nautical. New covers have pics and larger labels to see a lot better.

The big pita with many of the pursuits is they don't leave access to the tank. Some do, especially the older pursuits but man there's lots of big bills for a vintage of 2870. That's a very expensive repair. The tank is the cheapest part on those.
