Washlawlis River/Waukwaas River - Vancouver Island

Hi all, newbie here. Going up north the island in about 3 weeks. Found these 2 rivers in fishing regulations - 1 coho a day allowed. Just wondering if these 2 rivers accessible and fishable. Any information/recommendation will be appreciated.

Mouth of the Waukwaas can be good now. Rupert Arm will have coho jumping, but they rarely bite. Can drive a person nuts!!

If you take the road (Hwy 30) to Port Alice, you will cross the Waukwaas twice as it splits just downstream on the highway. At the first crossing, there is a pull out, park there and you will find a trail that will take you downstream until you get to the canyon. Some good pools to fish on the way down. You can also access the river via the many cut blocks off the West Main, which you will find after the first bridge. Turn right onto the West Main and go explore.

Good luck

Cheers

Yep, it's rained up here a bit, so fish should be in the river. Beaches will be quieting down for a bit.

Access to Rupert Arm has changed - the gravel launch is blocked by the private land holder. But you can still fish under the bridge or at the culverts near the ocean, or as mentioned, the upper river is accessible off the "Frigon Road".

Thank you for the info. Is Rupert rd open to get to the river mouth?
Yes, as far as I know all logging roads to Ruper Arm are open, but I hope it goes without saying that if there's hauling (and there usually is), to be aware and ready to get well out of the way... A loaded lowbed or fat truck will likely take up the whole road. They don't go fast but they don't like to stop...
