I just got the same IC-M510 radio and is only connected to my Morad antenna.
Works great and I get all the AIS signals. You only need a separate antenna if transmitting AIS. The M510 does not transmit
I'm running a couple of Morad 156 "hot rods" on my VHF's which have an AIS receive only Function. When speaking to Rob at Morad he said don't jeopardize your VHF capabilities by getting an AIS/VHF antenna (162/156) the logic is why would you jeopardize the VHF to maybe get a more distant AIS target.
I also run a dedicated Morad 162mhz for my AIS setup seperately
Morad marine antennas are manufactured using stainless steel and anodized aluminum materials, proven by years of field use to be the most durable alloys in harsh marine environments. Our VHF HD antennas are used by the US Coast Guard.

Any antenna will work, it just depends on what capabilities you want or range.
You cannot however transmit VHF and AIS over the same antenna at the same time
I think you're looking for a 156mhz Morad Hot Rod
I got mine shipped to seawings
AIS is just VHF. VHF maritime channels 87B (161.975 MHz) and 88B (162.025 MHz) are for AIS signals. A good VHF antenna will be able to cover it with no problems. you dont need a VHF/AIS unless you are transmitting AIS (since it has to transmit on 2 frequencies at once). For receive only just pick any good VHF antenna. I like my galaxy 5399 - https://www.westmarine.com/shakespeare-5399-9-1-2---6db-galaxy-vhf-marine-band-antenna-159322.html
Have a new Garmin AIS800 to install and looking for ideas on the antenna. Should it just connect to the existing Garmin 210 or to transmit will it need its own antenna?
