Just heard through a buddy that the Bonnie Lee boats are doing well out at the QA this morning. Limits have been had on hoochies and green/glo coyote spoons.

I've met the Bonnie Lee Guides and I was talking to one of them yesterday and they've been having fun out there. I understand they're using Green Glow Coyotes, Glow Blood and Bone Hoochies, Green Spackleback Hoochies and Anchovies. They're using shorter leader lengths on the hoochies--just 34 inches?. A few of their guides have some interesting handles on the radio... "Guitar Man" is my favorite....I understand he's been fishing longer than I have been alive! I have a hunch that a lot of "weekend warriors" are going to be fishing alongside the Salmon Slayer, Orca, Chaos, Vancouver Odyssey and Liquid Odyssey tomorrow!!! Everyone follow Peter the Pied Piper!!! I don't think those fish stand too much chance with all those lines in the water.

See you folks out there tomorrow.

I'll be out there trolling around aimlessly, away from the regatta following around the Bonnie Lee Boats.

Eugene is a good guy and a good fisherman. I suspect you know the story of why he is called the guitarman [8D]. One season we both guided for same organization, a company down at the Bayshore ( after the 24' Zeta at GI charters sank, as I recall) :D) Occassionally I had the pleasure to work with him on the same charter boat with big groups on a bigger 2 crew boat (MV Seastar). A few years back now....lotta fun.

I am land locked for another week or two with motor problems and hull blistering issues so there will be a few more fish out there for you all ;). Enjoy the fishing this weekend, I will be wishing I was out there !

Like that ,Regatta Followers just a note heading out tommorrow to try an old ling spot by porlier but coming past sandheads at dawn yesterday there were some good bait signs showing to the northwest in legal waters, good showing of gulls etc. just in case someone else wants to forgo the regatta[8D][8D] lolo

Was out for a couple hours this afternoon between the Bell Buoy and the QA. Found a little patch of fish and had four good hits in a 30 minute stretch, all between 70 ft and 90 ft. Boated one very red 12 lb spring.

Based on the radio chatter, it sounds like it was a very good day over at Gabriola.

Tough one out on the hump yesterday...blowing and pretty snotty.
Let an undersize go, lost a gooder and boated a nice 10-12 lber.
Trolled back across the hump towards thrasher and the South arm and put a nice 15 in the boat near the end as it was starting to lay down.

Red krippled k behind red flasher from 120 to 80, and 1 on an army truck coyote.

Cheers,

Getbent

Do you know of anyone who still sells krippled k's ? I lost a couple gooders last year. Cheers, Jimbo

Jimbo,I think garage sales are your best bet to find a few old Kripple K's.

Yeah your probably right, though someone might have old stock. I had one that was pink on one side white on the other and I hit every species with it last year, it was unreal!!:D

I went out for a few hours on Thursday and again yesterday for a few hours. Managed 1 red spring per day, about 12 lbs. Nice on the bbq with some fresh steamed dungeness.
80 to 110 feet in 500 ft of water between Cowan and the QA.
A great start to the season.

Went out yesterday on the South side of the hump again,. Didnt put the lines down till 12:30 and boom! Right away a 13-15# on an army truck coyote at 120. Then released an undersized off a Red krippled K head at 115.
Didnt like the way my anchovies were working...changed it up put my last one on and boom, right away at 115. New anchovies weren't brined up enough so went to check the crab pots, loaded, biggest I have seen yet this year.

Good day

Had that jet with the bomb threat and the two fighter jets that were escorting it in go right over us...pretty cool.

headed out from lions bay sunday, **** on a plate run out and dropped our prawn traps near Hutt, and carried out to S E of bowen, only a few boats out in morn as low slack was later in day, managed 4 fish to bite lost two keepers? and landed two rats, pretty **** poor also prawns were empty, ****ty result on a great day

went out sunday and fished from 11am to 6pm, started a pass around passage island and carried on in a line to the QA then to bell and mile marker. We had two hookups, one was decent half way to the QA and another smaller one at the bell, never seen either one. That was it other than crab. I would be interested to hear any reports along ambleside?? seems pretty slow otherwise on this side.

Never mind Ambleside Jimbo...get out to South Bowen.

A couple of local guide friends I know were out fishing today in the same areas off South Bowen. They were on catch and release by 10:30 am as they had limits on board. One of them called me and left a hysterical voicemail while I was enslaved at work. I called him back when I got the message and promptly called him a righteous B*STARD!!!! To which he started laughing...again... hysterically. They were all Reds from 12-20 lbs caught on the same hot tickets which have been putting fish in the box for the last 2 weeks. When I last talked to him, he was well into double digits with most being close to legal or above legal.

Going to be interesting to see how long this holds locally...the Island side was hot by this time last year and it was tapering off here. Wouldn't it be nice if the fishing held through June? :D

Thats, crazy how things change day to day. Last saturday was apparrently quite slow as well, though my buddy did well. So I thought sunday may have a better bite, nope. All talk was pretty much nill as was the day for us. Then a day or 2 later and its on fire again?? Well mabe I will be out again this weekend after all!! I will do some searchin to get some more reports on the area.My buddy was using a 7ft leader rolling chovies wich seemed to be the ticket for him.

I'll keep you posted Jimbo. The fish are in pockets and moving through. When you find them, you can have the HOT action that they had. I know that late last week some boats were fishing the evening flood and having some good action off South Bowen as well. Sometimes it takes a while to find the mass of fish. We are also having some large ebbs which will push the feed and fish around. It may be time to start using larger spoons and bait was some of the fish have 5 to 6 inch herring in them.
