Urchin?

I'm curious about harvest/cooking urchin. Has anybody had much experience? Are there are particular type of urchin that are better?

Conversely, are there urchin to avoid (or algae blooms to be aware of such as red tide?) because of toxins?
 
nasty yellow/orange pile of goo. add soya and wasabi, edible. they need to be harvested at the right time or it is a waste.
 
Ya you dont cook it . I used to drive boat for divers purples and greens if some got broke one guy would slurp them up . I tried it once and that was good enough for me juts like beer i guess its a Acquired taste LOL LOL
you can find them on rocks on very low tides near kelp.
