Model is F300XCB would be a new 2022 engine for me? Any experience with this year's engine... good or bad?

I’ve put a deposit on the exact same engine. Electronic (aka digital) throttle but hydraulic steering (digital steering is an option but dealers seem to shy away from it). Apparent it’s the same engine as previous years with a few small improvements so from what I understand, it’s been a pretty reliable and tested engine for many years. New cowling design on the 2021/2022 models.

Same block as 225,250s. Engine itself has been around since around 2012 . Some reports say the difference between 250 and 300 is all in the top end, similar bottom end. Also seen comments on the 250 making more than 250hp and 300 making less than 300hp.

New ones have optional digital steering. Electric throttle/shift has been around for a bit now. Another new change for the 300 is when in reverse the exhaust stops coming out of the prop, comes out higher on the leg. Supposed to make reverse much better(they use this setup on the new 425s).

Overall good motors!

the F300 is a great engine, but it is supposed to run on premium 89 octane. Yes, 89 is only a few pennies more, but i keep my boat on a buoy much of the spring/summer and all the marinas near me only offer 87 octane. When you talk to Yamaha they say, run 89 or you will not get the performance and could be doing damage.

Now for a twist and forgetting the whole octane argument, the 225, 250 and 300 all use the same 4.2 Liter block, and there are many who have purchased the lesser priced F225 and pay ~ $700 for an ECU flash which makes the F225 into 332 hp. See Niizpro Marine

Below is some info they sent me when i considered flashing my F250 into 332 hp. Interesting in my mind? Good luck. DAJ
