You have a good point Time...linking the US and Canadian waters together like that may encourage thinking about them like that. Not that it'll create some wonderful international salmon conservation society but maybe it's a step in the right direction, eh?
And let's face it, it pretty much needs to be a name of positive historical significance and the name of a people that have made home in that area longer than any others is that. Seems like a pretty straight forward thing and it's surprising there's so many flying off the handle about it.
And again: no name change; it's proposing to apply a name to a previously-unnamed water body (albeit comprised of many smaller named bodies which will maintain their original names).
The worst day fishing is better than the best day working...
