If you are fed up, pissed off, can't take it anymore about the sad state of recreational fishing on SVI as I am, then attend this meeting!!! Now is the time for rec. anglers to come together to support a non-profit group that is ALL about lobbying our local, provincial and federal govt's to recognize the vital economic and social importance of our sector. All the other interest groups have lobbyists influencing govt. now here is a new group dedicated to lobby on our behalf. Nothing stands in the way of it's success except YOURlevel of involvement! Now it is time to walk the talk and show up and support the new SVI Anglers Coalition. Come and find out how this new group is organized and the plans it has for action - you'll be impressed. Tell all your friends and see you all there on Nov. 27th!

This is the best thing that has happened for South Island anglers since......... well since forever. Everybody needs to come out to this. See you there!

Certainly a good first step. Maybe some day we can control all the streams on
Vancouver Island as well as the fishing around the Island. I have it down to attend.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend. Pulled a moose draw this year (the first LEH in 17 YEARS!) and it's active right then.

That said, you can put me down as IN! I have Full Support for this initiative, and am willing to help in any way I am able.

I'll check in upon my return in this regard...

Good Luck! I truly Hope this initial meeting goes Right Well, and look forward to the Success down the road...

Cheers,
Matt

You will be kept in 'the Loop' Mathew!

Get home safe from your trip and good luck.

Why, what additional service do you provide with respect to the other existing groups I.e. value added. How will you engage your audience?

Should we have multiple groups across the island trying to advance, in some cases, conflicting agendas?

Not intended to be offensive but rather informative.

I understand the mission clearly and support it I'm confused why it would only be for only South Vancouver Island issues, you could have had a much bigger membership if it had of been for all VI or even all BC? Maybe im missing something? I understand geographically we all have are own problems but generally we all are concerned about the same issues.

It is the rebirth of something that already existed...

With the guys that put it (back) together it should spread.

You have to start where you have control and where you know your turf. Sometimes that means starting small. If this project is well received and supported by the angling community of SVI and can achieve success then this model will quickly spread out to other regions. This is the pilot on our home turf if you will. Go and help making this a success so others will benefit from it too in near future.

As you suggest "... put it (back) together ..."

In 2009 that group of angry ragtag anglers was known as Southern Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition. They were the ad-hoc group that formed in the Sandman Hotel after the Mar 2009 Victoria SFAB Committee mtg to fight the looming halibut allocation reg change. That group organized a Victoria protest rally in May 2009, which was a reaction to DFO cutting our halibut catch from 2 per day to 1 per day. Today on South Vancouver Island there are too many negative fish and fisheries issues facing us to simply hope it all turns out okay by itself. Being reactive when something bad is about to happen is too little too late. Our Chinook fishery is a prime example of that. It is time to unite as an angling community and organize. Being structured, professional, well-funded, proactive and determined when you agressively lobby for your cause gives politicians fits. We need to lead. The new official group founded from the acorn of the past is South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition Society.

Everyone who attends is entered into a draw at the end of the presentation. Just by showing up, you have a chance to win a fishing charter in Sooke by one of the best! You can also win accommodations in the Sooke area.

I was informed that SVIAC will represent both fresh and saltwater anglers from Nanaimo to Port Renfrew, and everywhere in between.

This is not just a ***** session. Great results will come from this group, but they need your support. Oh, and if you need more incentive......CASH BAR!

So who's going??? C'mon guys now's the time to show some unity and strength to help bring about the changes we need to promote angling and more fish for all sectors! Let's see a big turnout!
