Some good news on the salmon front.....

That is good news! It's great to hear about the efforts of the various volunteer hatchery groups around the Island. I volunteer at the Rosewall Hatchery. Over the past several weeks, we've clipped the fins on about 50,000 coho fry, with about 12,000 to go. These little gems will be released into the river sometime in April. I'm hoping the few thousand that I've clipped will remember how gentle I was with them when they see my lure go by in a few years!

You clipped cohos now?! They are barely hatched yet if at all!?

LOL..... 18 months in the fresh water and 18 months in the salt.
That's the life cycle of coho here in Canada

Thanks for your effort.... your in my good books now ;) (wink)

The ones we are clipping hatched last year and have been in our rearing tanks. The will be released in a few months. Some of them are pretty big now.

Oh, ok, that makes sense. We at the Sooke hatchery don't have that luxury as we run out of water supply by Mai. We could never keep a coho longer than a few months.
