smartcraft question

I would like to hook up a single SmartCraft (SC1000) tachometer to my 2005 175 Optimax. Does anyone know if I can run a harness directly from the tach to the outboard? I'll be running just the one so no need for junction boxes etc. I found a Faria Smartcraft tach (MG3000/MGT018)for a great price with a harness kit but I see it has a 12 pin connection on the back as opposed to the 10 pin on the Mercury gauge.

Page 2 shows you your two options. You will my want to consider the junction box and resistor setup (top of page 2). This allows you to add more smart craft products in the future without a lot of extra $$ now. The wire is the expensive part. The junction boxes and resistors can be found cheep.
