i really like this thread! 3 years ago i was primarily cruising but had an epic summer night at sidney spit. lost 2 solid fish and boated a 15 lb. i was wondering if this was a freak occurrence?
I now have a toddler, so my ability to rip out to sooke for the better part of a day has diminished. Besides, i actually dont really like fishing there that much...it seems always crowded between weeds and reefs, and nasty currents.
I've had some great fish on the breakwater, but not recently. i'm wondering if that might be dead summer fishery now that they're not doing the net pen release anymore. I've heard lots about oak bay flats and the 'gap'. Am I correct in understanding you guys are generally saying it's a tough go for summer chinook?
