Shore casting Maui

Well...a bad day fishing... ;). We worked really hard to find a fish or two without success. And it really did not matter. We through out bait and Kastmasters and poppers up an down the West side of the island. We played in the surf, used the cemented in rod holders and threw lines from all sorts of spots. The primary drawback, IMO, was the impressive surf at this time (type in Jaws surf event and you will see why. When surfers are falling off a 40 foot wave, you know the waves are worthy). Anyways, I would bring my gear back in a heartbeat. Getting up and hitting a spot as the sun rose was fantastic. Tossing the line, and then seeing your kid do the same with humpbacks and a rainbow in the background was surreal. For a gear report - we ended up using a 9' Amundsen telescoping rod, coupled with an Okuma Z series conventional reel. We through on braid with a mono topcoat. This set up was great and gave us lots of flexibility.
