We usually go to Nootka in August for bottom fish including halibut... and salmon. Unable to go in August this year for medical reasons.
We're now able to get out, and looks like halibut will be open to atleast Sept. 15....
We do have our own boat suitable for the westcoast... anyone recommend a lodge or rental that is open in September and you can bring your own boat?
Thanks

Pick a window with good currents and come to Victoria. Bring the wife and kids if you got em. Beautiful spot and good halibut fishing. No need to go to a fish camp but if you want to do the fish camp thing pedder bay is a really nice spot to stay.

No chicken ranches here but lots of nice size fish around for those who put the time in. Currents are highly important here though if you come when they are fast you'll have a lot of trouble trying to fish.

September Halibut...

Good pioints.
Thanks for the feedback.... will take a good look at Pedder Bay.
But, I'm not an advocate of the Recreationl Quota Program.

Yes that was sarcasm, there are so many places on the coast from Pedder Bay type camping spots to first class stay at lodges. Price varies with services, its all about what you want. As with most things time in to learn an area and spots ups the odds, review the charts and look for those gravel slopes into deeper water. We leave today for North Island, tides are great starting today all until Mon, hope wind remains calm, we sleep in boat, anchor in small bays and enjoy time together on water. Hali is primary but ling, cod and maybe a pink for bbq. What a Province we call home. Good luck where ever you choose Nahmint.
