Around this time of year a lot of people will be thinking of cleaning up and otherwise servicing their reels, here are two excellent Forums for info.

First is Mikes Reel Repair in Abottsford whom I have used for many years since Mike Sr was alive and started the whole show.

Mikes sells all the stuff for jazzing up Shimano baitcasters and the like I've put smoooth drags in my Calcuttas and it does make a difference.

Alan Tani is something of a pioneer in internet reel repair (is there such a thing?) you may have seen his photo essays on other boards.

Well has has his own site now and it's just getting off the ground the photos aren't up yet but give the guy a break he has a full time job and a wife and kids plus he fishes from time to time.;)

ya i wouldnt recomend mikes is you want to use it any time soon. not to bash his work, but the process in which he gets it done and back to your door is painfully slow!!!!!!

I know what you mean they've had a reel I sent them for over 2 months now.

In fairness it's an older model Penn that they're waiting on parts for but I had to phone 3 times to get the story straight, twice they said they'd phone me back but never did.

The skill set needed to successfully run a service business is quite different from that needed to fix gear.
