Rear main leak F-350

I noticed oil on the driveway and sure enough it was a rear main leak. I took the truck to West Coast Ford where I bought it and they changed the easy gaskets telling me it wasn't the rear main. I went to Richport Ford and they told me it was the rear main. By the time West Coast admitted it was the rear main my warranty was up. Hard to believe they would pull such a stunt. If you have any warranty issues don't wait and keep on the dealer. They will not only lose my business but I know a lot of contractors that deal with them. :(

For what it's worth I would write a letter to the manager and owner of WestCoast Ford explaining your problem. Make sure to tell them you'll never shop there again, and you'll tell everyone about your problems with them and advise them not to shop there either. When the boss has a hard copy sitting on his desk, he has to deal with it.

I got in a big pissing match with Tom Harris in Nanaimo about my brakes. It was going to cost me over $2500 for parts and labour. After a couple letters I got the parts at cost and they paid the rest. It cost me just over $900.

Most places just blow people off because not many people fight that hard. All they do is say no because they have nothing to lose.

Start with filing a complaint with the company "Ford", not the dealership. They can/and have been known to fix things like that for the orginal</u> owners?

Hi Charlie,
I am the original owner. I will write Ford and explain how it all went down.

I would recommend calling Customer relations prior to writing a letter....talk to them nicely...avoid loosing your cool and usually things tend to happen....if that doesn't work then write a letter.

Make sure you have you VIN, milage, repair orders when the vehicle was looked at handy

When all else fails (try the diplomatic route first), wait till their showroom is full of customers and go in complaining very loudly about their service. If still no resolution, wait again for a showroom full of customers and repeat. I've never had to repeat more than twice to get satisfaction.

I spoke to customer relations at West Coast Ford. The woman tells me the problem is that when I first brought the vehicle in the service writer did not make any notes on where the leak was. Well, the service writer told me it was up to the tech to determine where the leak was. She figures the tech missed the rear main. I would suggest that anyone taking a vehicle in should ask the service writer to write down specificaly what you feel the issue is. Otherwise the dealer can say the problem occured after.

This is maybe why Ford is not filing for bankruptcy, they do not honor the warranty and the customer pays the bill.:D

What really bugged me was when the service manager looked at me and said," you haven't followed Ford's service schedule" In other words they did not have a record of all my oil changes. Is there anyone who has the dealer change oil on their diesel trucks?

As long as it was done by a certified mechanic they must honour the warranty , I fought that one years ago with my '89 Chev 3/4 ton P/U , they held firm I went to a lawyer got an opinion for $155 and took it to the dealer , they scheduled it for warranty work the next week , has it changed now ? don't know just giving you my experience.

I get two free oil changes a year. I only go to the dealer and when they came to me with a buggered seal seat for the oil filter I told the they were the only ones to touch it they had to eat the part.:D

What kind of dealership gives free work?

Alberta Motor Products Ft McMurray Alberta. I have been buying there since 1988 and had been treated very well.
Like I always say if it has tits or wheels you will have trouble with it sooner or later. Deal with a dealer that works on your truck like he wants to sell you another.:D

There are definatley alot of people that get their work done elsewhere figuring they save a few dollars, but when it comes to warranty work they expect the dealer and the manufacterer to go over and above and give things away...there is something to be said about patronizing the dealer...they will give more in the end....and the manufacter looks at dealer patronization when deciding to "GOODWILL" a repair
.....This comes from being in the Auto industry for 18 years and working for various dealers...

When this leak first showed I had 15,000k on the truck and a year left on warranty. All work on this truck has been done by the dealer except for a few oil changes. It now has 27,000k. The reason for the low k is that I own 2 trucks in my company and 2 other cars as well as a motorcycle. All my vehicles are Ford and all were from the same dealer. That's all going to change.

23 years ago I bought my last Chrysler product. This was not because they make crappy trucks but I couldn't get them to work on the one I had troubles with and when I called Chrysler Canada I was told that I was on my own,,, Ha!
I can't complain about Ford except that people I know have similar problems.
GM was the only place left to go and I have not been disappointed by them.:D

Today we traded our 1998 Ford Escort in on a 2008 Volkswagon Jetta. Four wheel discs, Air, power locks and windows, heated seats, heated power mirrors, side air bags, 2 litre engine with 6 speed auto tiptronic tranny, aluminum wheels. Warranty for 4 years and 80,000 k.
Total price was $18,995.00. Beats the heck out of the Honda Civic and $3,000 less. My wife is delighted and Ford lost a car sale.
