Looking at installing a system this year, my first one what am I looking for? What's a good reliable brand?

Jabsco is a pretty reputable product in pumps

Lots to chose from I have the even flo one all you really need is a RV one and pay alot less if its going to be exposed in anyway to elements spray paint it marine ones are like 3 times the price I have 2 on the boat and one I got on amazon at 50 bucks 5 years no problems

Buy the Jabsco pump. I bought a cheap Amarine-made pump on Amazon and it was junk - the switch failed in a couple of months and then the pump failed. Wasted time and materials installing it. Definitely not suitable for marine use.

Payne's catalog. they usually have a pressure switch attached, about 60 psi.
4 quarter inch screws into the transom. plastic pipe fittings go into your hoses.
modular and compact, when the motor stops, get another unit and they should be interchangeable, using the same pump.

I bought mine on Amazon with the kit. It was around $300 with free shipping. The 5.0 is about $40 cheaper.

Amazon here, just put a chunk of hose out the back through my kicker steering hole in the stern and used a screw from the trim tab to p clamp it in place
Put a switch right off the down rigger
