Pt Alberni sockeye opening or Not??

I have heard rumors that port sockeye may be closed this year. That DFO made a deal with the natives that they would not net the river if sporties were not allowed to fish either. This may be lifted once there is escapement.

Could anyone shed some light on this?

yea i heard the same thing. no sockeye and no coho fishing!
or i mean you just can't keep them.
but w/e. you know that the watts will still have that same net out off thier back door.
The DFO will do nothing about it tho. DFO is too scared of the indians to stop them. and everybody knows it.

Wait it is to soon as the fishing plans have not been reviewed.

whatever. i'm pretty sure that it will be closed. aslong as the springs aren't closed.

Are you guys talking just the river area? How would this effect Port Alberni economy etc.?

no i'm not just talking about the river. it's the whole inlet. the whole sockeye run. and maybe coho.
