Prawning/Fishing in Nanaimo

Hi Gang, I've got the boat ready to go and was wondering if anyone has been out prawning in the Nanaimo area? I was going to drop a few traps and then troll around for a salmon. I've never been on such a confusing site as the DFO, so it looks like it's open around Nanaimo for prawns right now. Is that what you get?

Anyone salmon fishing in the last few days? Last time we went out to Thrasher a couple weeks ago, it was a skunk show.

Thanks, Mike

Been out 3 times in Nanaimo in the past month, nothing. Near extinct this time of year, too many seals.

Virtually everything is open around Nanaimo except rock fish and ling cod. Prawns have been good although I haven't been out for a couple weeks. Crabbing in Departure Bay was good, but tapered off the last couple weeks, probably mating as we got a few females with lots of eggs.

From what I read, the salmon fishing hasn't really picked up out here yet, but everyone is expecting the next week or so to be different.

Try the killfish.ca website and forum for some more local Nanaimo info.

Tight lines.
