Fishing from shore in Sooke

I've been lake/river trout fishing for a few years, and have fished for salmon on reel and fly in rivers, but I'm going to try something new: shore fishing for pinks in Sooke tomorrow. I was wondering: Got an tips? Rod up or down? amount of drag? pinks, due to size, are like catching trout?

The pinks seem to be hitting anything so I would use the usual "buzz bombing" stuff used for chinook as there is a lot of them around. If targeting pinks only I'd probably use a Crocodile type spoon with some red on it. Pinks fight pretty similar to a 3-5lb trout.
