New forum rules

As a moderator on another board... I would consider the last few posts personal attacks.

(minus labman)

False, Sexist, Misleading, Harassing, Inaccurate, Defamatory, Insult, Slur, Verbally attack

Now if we could only have rules like this enforced in the House of Commons and the BC Legislature.

I suspect this would also eliminate 70% of the comments to news stories in the newspapers, (ever read the comments in some of the major papers). 80% of Government pre-election information ads, and 99% of Political pre-election ads, (I am being generous on this one) especially the “Misleading and Verbally attack”

Good start though, should calm things down around here.

Whenever there was trouble on the site a couple of names always seemed to pop up. Everytime there was a fight a couple of names were found in there swinging. Same guys all the time. Seems certain users were also using the same ip adress with different handles which is also a no no. Yet the other thousands of users on the site never seemed to pop up at the centre of every brawl, insult exchange or topic derailment. Lo and behold a few troublemakers are gone and my inbox is settling down with fewer and fewer complaints...

And Lorne, I never said you were a drunk . You got canned because you were among the top caca disturbers on the site. How many times alone to you insult someone when a debate wasn't going your way? "GAY" Was finally just the straw that broke the camels back. When did you last post anything about fishing? Let's not forget your alter user as Jerry Springer. As for drunk, today we also had a visit from someone who has the same IP address as someone in the Coombs area who represents a major marine outfits and who's late night rambling tyrades and breakdowns every eight months or so are well documented in this forum and can be found using the search function.

There are several competing local forums out there.... I have not noticed a single case of insults or hot headed rants on any of them..

If this is too much please join the hot fishing action on some of the other local forums.. Peoples boats will be in the water in another month and it will be business as usual.

Hmmmm! Guess I'll stick around.

Just wondering , anyone been fishing or just hanging around their computors and reading the new terms ??
I know how to look at my computor and read terms, but its fishing Im interested in ...... maybe if we were fishing life would be better so GET OUT AND FISH DUDES !
PS ; Hope I didnt offend anyone ..... geeeeeeeees !

Maybe when Lorne has 'done his time' he can come back here? (even punted politicians' get a chance to come back)

He's a passionate outdoorsman who - like me - has let his mouth run on him now and then.

Hope one day we can stand-together and have meaningful dialog here without chopping away at each other; regardless if we agree or not.

This thing we do - fishing - is under siege from all sides and we need every able-body we got in order to ensure it's still around for our kids!

Peace...

I for one like the rules and what appears to be more enforcement of them. In this day and age, it's inappropriate and inexcusable for anyone to use the term "g-a-y" in a derogatory way. A reasonable fraction of our population is g-a-y and they deserve better treatment than that. Lorne in particular, was one who frequently tossed that word around as a derogatory term. Adult males need to behave like adult males. Note: in order to make this post, I had to put the dashes in the word since it's now a banned term on the forum.

Something to think about from a iFish post:

The Law of the Garbage Truck
**********************
How often do you let other peoples nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive internet poster ruin your day? Unless youre the Terminator, you probably let it get to you and feel hurt. However, the mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on whats important in your life.
Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Heres what happened.

I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when all of a sudden, a big SUV jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, the car skidded, the tires squealed, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the SUV's back-end.
I couldnt believe it. But then I couldnt believe what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around, started yelling bad words at us and threw in a one finger salute! I couldnt believe it!
But then heres what really blew me away. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, Why did you just do that!? This guy could have killed us! And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, The Law of the Garbage Truck He said:
Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you let them, theyll dump it on you.
So when someone wants to dump on you, dont take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. Youll be happier.

So I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the internet? It was then that I said, I dont want their garbage and Im not going to spread it anymore.
I began to see Garbage Trucks. Like in the movie The Sixth Sense, the little boy said, I see Dead People. Well now I see Garbage Trucks. I see the load theyre carrying. I see them coming to dump it. And like my taxi driver, I dont take it personally; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

Roy Baumeister, a psychology researcher from the University of Florida, found that you remember bad things more often than good things in your life. You store the bad memories more easily, and you recall them more frequently.
So the odds are against you when a Garbage Truck comes your way. But when you follow The Law of the Garbage Truck you take back control of your life. You make room for the good by letting go of the bad.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their life.
What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?
Heres my bet: Youll be happier.

Cuba Libre, Love the garbage truck analogy and your right, you can see them coming. Just wave and get out of the way. I have enough to do and don't need to be slowed down by other peoples steamy pies. I have time for their problems but not their hatred.

I guess you never know where life's wisdom might come from.

I have been part of a couple heated forum conversations before and took them for what they were... a forum conversation. I have read the new rules and am ok with them - besides, it is what it is. No sense worrying or getting bent out of shape about whether they are appropriate or not. Part of what I realize through it all is that anyone can and will talk trash from behind a computer screen, which makes it all the more pathetic when folks get into significant slander via forums.

Good post, here's a link to other derogatory terms FYI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBT_slang
