Mylar Flash Fly

Trying to keep busy these days, so I decided to dabble in some Mylar today. My tackle box needed a top up. This is a pretty quick and effective cheap method. They can also be used as a insert or any recipe that you can come up with. The Mylar that I have been using is 4 inches long and finely cut with a band on top. Each package contains around 3 feet of Mylar uncut. I cut the Mylar to desired lengths add tape to banded end and attach it to a bullet head. I then wrap magic thread over the top then seal with nail polish.

Nice work. You can gently heat those heads and squeeze them flattish to change the profile. You have to put something inside to maintain the hole. Then pull it out before it cools. Then stick on 3d eyes.

That's awesome. I've got a few hootchies like this that I bought from a member on here and they're really effective at this time of year in the Thrasher area.

I just don't have the time to make 'em myself!

Great idea Tubber, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you might be using this product too.

I had a good day with the Luhr Jensen Flashfly once, so I farted around with some tinsels in my fly tying pile, since I didn't want to pay $10.99 for another. Nothing as l elegant as yours, and as per usual, I have so much gear I don't think I've even tried one yet. The strips look way easier to deal with.

Yeah last few years the Clear pearl and glow white have done well on both Coho and Springs. They call it glow white but it actually glows green. As you can see in the first picture I posted with all the product lined up, top left is 4 packages of each to last me a while. Leader length is finger tip to tit with 60 lb Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon disappearing pink.

With this heat wave I have been off work and hunkered down in the basement last couple days. I purchased some 6 inch mylar instead of the 4 inch that I have used in the past and some different heads 2 try. The 3d eyes came with the heads and where a PITA to deal with. I tried a new material called hyper UV blue bubble. The 6 inch mylar is not as finely cut as the 4 inch and the band is the same size.
