MOUTCHA BAY RESORT HOSTS 6th ANNUAL TYEE KAYAK FISHING DERBY
The “original” and still the only ocean kayak fishing derby held in Canada!
The 6th Annual Tyee Kayak Fishing Derby will be held this coming August 28th to 30th at Moutcha Bay Resort near Gold River on Vancouver Island’s west coast.
The goal of this event is to raise funds for the Nootka Sound Watershed Society for Salmon Enhancement and while raising awareness of the sport of kayak fishing and the Canadian Kayak Anglers Club.
Over the past 5 years, this derby has seen an average of 25+ participants joining in the fun and challenge of catching a Chinook salmon weighing an excess of 30 pounds which warrants the official title of TYEE. The 2009 grand prize is a fully equipped Prowler Trident 13 kayak, sponsored by Ocean Kayak.
The 6th Annual Moutcha Bay Tyee Kayak Fishing Derby features two exciting days of competitive fishing on the beautiful waters of Nootka Sound. The event is open to all human powered watercraft, beginner and experienced anglers, and sponsors will be on site demonstrating the latest in kayaking and fishing gear.
