Is there a shelf life on mono line? I came across a 1500 yard spool that was stored in my garage.I believe it may be 6 years old. Is it still good to use?

I've always heard that as long as it's not stored where it's exposed to light it will stay good for a long time. However, I'm not sure this is correct or not.

If it has been subject to UV, which can come from sourcses other than sunlight, I wouldn't use it. Saying that I would pull off several feet several times and check its breaking stength. The surface line wraps(exposed to light ) would be more likely to be exposed to the damaging UV. As far as 'shelf life' just based on breakdown with time, someone else would have to help you with that as I don't know.

If its glossy and clear ( not opaque) and passes the breaking strength test, I'd be willing to use it if you don't want to! .
