Mono Leader Review

Earlier this month I was looking over some of the supplied leaders on the Great Lakes style flies in the collection and I realised I both liked & didn't like some.

Line too heavy/stiff and odd opaque white colour I recognised the stuff as being made by High Seas-yet those qualities also contribute to the lures' success a stiff heavy leader translates the flasher's action all that much more as we all know.

So since work was slowing down I decided to search out some alternatives IOW sit here clicking until my back gave out (!)

After not finding what I was looking for @ Bass Pro and seeing the empty winter season shelves @ local retailers a couple European retailers (plus Amazon) looked to have what I wanted in 50#-here goes.

This first stuff is strange-very small and dense almost sharp edges a strange thing to say about mono line I know.

Knots were so/so sorry for the lousy pic I can see a use for this but it might not be leader material.

It's Japanese made for a Spanish retailer depending on the light has a good deal of blue in it as well as Green.

Next is something we can't buy here anymore because of some changes in ownership but Mustad still sells it in Europe-well made I ended up with the Clear not the preferred Green but no matter it's a quality product knots seat easily sorry for the lousy pic -a Bulgarian outfit was selling this.

Next up a somewhat familiar brand Ande Premium but in a colour rarely seen in BC-bought it just to see how it would look in our Green water.

It's only 50# but much thicker than the previous two so much so that tying knots was downright clumsy almost like Flurocarbon I wasn't too pleased-having a look after dinner though I could see the knots seated well and this stuff should be fine for my original purpose which was using it for Spoon leaders.Bought through Amazon not my favourite but this all about changes.

Lastly through the same Spanish shop probably the Best fishing line I've ever tied-I was looking for a long gone Daiwa product and decided to take a flier on this expensive stuff-same price but only half as much line (!)

The feel of this stuff the balance is incredible this is the line Maxima wishes it was-most of this will be reserved for another kind of fishing altogether it's too good to use for Salmon.

Thanks for the reviews DB. Surprising with so many lines manufactured that there is so few choices in the average tackle store these days.
