I think we just did this one not long ago but that’s OK I’ll contribute again.

Mine sits in my yard ( we have 70 acres 12 miles out of town ) just 30 yards from my house. It’s 40 x 50 with 16’ walls. Two doors, 1 10 x 10 the other 14 x 10. Heated with an overhead furnace. Heavily insulated with 6” walls and 16” blown in the attic. Fully equipped with 220 of course. I have it sort of divided into 3 sections. One side is tinkering and wood work, middle is mechanical and far side is fishing related. I have 300 gallon water cistern with hot water heater as fish cleaning counter. This is my home when I’m home from work, if I’m not working in the yard ( we maintain 3 + acres of lawn ) or out in the outdoors this is where I can be found. When I’m home I spend probably 75% of my free time in here. Fully equipped shop for all you want to do. Just about all the wood working tools, welding station with cutting torches, MIG welder and Lincoln arc welder. Full line of hand tools and air wrenches. Yup it’s my peide and joy for sure.

I finished my pole building this last spring which is 30' wide by 40' deep, plus a lean to section of 10' wide with 10' enclosed and 30' open. Photos below show recently sold 2007 SeaSport 2400 XL and recently purchased 2020 Pursuit DC 266 in building. I always wanted a slab in front of building from pressure washing and other, and decided to extend it big enough for sport coat (for pickleball), which I coated with penetrating stain which can handle traffic/turning tires when backing. DAJ

the insulation is minimal with blankets under metal roof, and sidewalls 1" rigid foam under metal siding, which was required for first 3' because of flood plane requirements, but decided to do entire walls with rigid. DAJ

The excuse I hear a lot is "they're only here for a little while" or worse yet the rates are built into a price that the client never sees. But with the GC's labor it's all up front and up for debate.

I had a small electrical contracting business for several years. Had a bunch of homeowners contact me about “overcharging” I would tell them all the same thing I charge this amount and then the GC adds his 10-20% mark up for dealing with me. If I was dealing with a homeowner acting as a GC then I had a 15% discretionary PITA charge. I would be totally honest with clients if they where being difficult that there are a multitude of other elec contractors in town.

In todays world with the cost of materials i would have a hard time adding a decent mark up without feeling like I was taking advantage. But hey there is always that client that doesn’t pay !

Your fellows shops are bigger than my bloody house! All I have is an 8x10 shed filled with garden crap, lawnmowers, gas tanks, etc. The only upside is all my crap is paid for, but the shop sucks.
BTW, all the shops posted here are outstanding!

I have very serious shop envy. Should never have looked at this thread. Same goes for the fishing reports thread, come to think of it.

Any more great examples of shops out there? I’m thinking pretty seriously of a 36ft deep and 42 ft wide boat/tractor shop this spring. I’ll just have to work a few more years to pay it off.

So many great shops. I'll throw mine on here. It's a work in progress. We inherited it with the property. New roof, siding and some cool barn doors. 20x45 inside with a 15x45 side shop. Still a work in progress but it's nice to have a dry space.

What was your costs on this minus the pickleball court? Looking at building something similar

about $85K USD including taxes, but excluding electrical and grading/site prep. good luck
