Hello folks,
seeking some info on a reliable person/ company preferably on southern Vancouver Island that does inboard to outboard conversions and POD installations . I have a 24 foot Orca Skagit (love the boat) and a want to get back to an outboard. Would appreciate any comments
/ info you have on this.
Thanks
Pat

PM me and ill send you the guys name best pod ive seen done in a while , some ive seen on here have major flaws my buddy does it right ...

Jenkins Marine did a great job on my 206 Dougle Eagle. They filled the hole, Gel Coated the Transom and Fabricated and installed the pod for a very competive price. I removed the Engine and Leg on my own to reduce cost.

Dan

Im really hoping that is wide enough for the ram to fit inside. Id check to make sure it fits it has to be a min. 26 inchs inside measurement so ram and hoses dont get wreaked ,as you want to be able to lift that motor out and out of water if possible... hope it is ok bud everything else looks great..

Good luck wolf

Have to ask what size boat is that going on?

He has a 300 verado so it’s not an issue the steering ram is built in and doesn’t require the same clearance he requested as small a well as possible to keep the top 2 bolts accessible from the outside it’s 17” wide the pod itself is 36” wide and has 2 full height stringers built in at the 17” measurement there is a 2x6x1/4 tube bracing the lower two bolts that tie into each stringer and give extra reinforcement a little overkill maybe but weight is still around 130-150# overall so not bad.

I believe his boat is 21’ the current pod was not providing enough buoyancy I think we should have cured this issue. Once it’s coated and mounted I will post some more pictures and fishin solo can give us a review of the difference until then let’s keep it on track for any other builder suggestions, I am on the mainland so maybe not the most convenient in this case but feel free to pm if your interested fogy2047

Thanks! I would haul the boat up island for a quality pod.. much appreciated.. looking to secure a 250HP outboard first before I start tearing apart the boat

I originally had a Yamaha 250 on our 24' Orca. I switched to a 300 hp Yamaha which got better gas mileage over the 250 hp, better coming out of the hole and faster. I think Spring Fever did the same on his Orca with the same out come.
It all depends on if the pod is strong enough.

Where did you find the best deal on an outboard?

If I was doing a pod project, I would be interested in having a pod designed well for the boat and hence would look for the OEM maker of said pod. I imagine the Orca might have had more than one generation of pods and I would want to leverage off that learning curve instead of picking some well respected pod maker who had not made a pod for the Orca. That said, I believe PDR marine in Bellingham is OEM for the Orca pods and you should contact Dwayne there, who is a wealth of knowledge and does great work. Good luck. DAJ

Where did you find the best deal on an outboard?
I purchased the 300hp from the Port Boat House. I wrote up a specification on what I wanted in a 300hp and 9.9hp engine and sent it out to most of the bigger outboard dealers on the island. I got four quotes and PBH was well below anyone else. It was well worth it for me to trailer the boat to Port Alberni.
I had to change from cable controls to fly by wire, so I was willing to switch to any engine type as long as I got a great deal.
But now with the lack of product and the dealers knowing it there won't be to many great deals out there. Even at a boat show if they have one..
