i have a 12 foot smokercraft canadian with a 9.9hp mercury on the back. is it worth it to put a hydrofoil on it.

Many years ago I bought a tinny/9.9 combo that had one on it, it was scary when it bit in the corners and reversing was worse………...
Took it off and was happy

You may also find that it has a tendancy to pull to one side all the time, depending where you and your passengers sit, and it cannot be corrected by moving the anode fin (if it has one).

I have a 12ft tinny with a '83 9.9 Johnson with a hydrofoil and it skims the water nicely with myself and 2 kids in it, evenly balanced of course. I think the hydrofoil helps.

I had one on my heavy 12' and it helped to bump me up on plane much earlier in the take off, it was slighty more unpredictable when on plane but improved when I slowed the cruise speed down a bit. As a whole I preferred having it on over off, especially if I was running shallow fast water areas like the Fraser.
