Herring Spawn Observation

Hoping to take the grandkids out in a couple weeks to see the spawn and all the sea life that comes alive when the herring are near shore.
Won't be taking the boat out yet, so was interested to know any vantage points to observe from on shore. I'm located in Nanaimo but any location along east side of the Island should be do-able.

Usually French creek has a good spawn parksville beach

Northwest Bay is close to you.Look for sealions.

2 years ago the herring spawn around Nanaimo was incredible and anywhere from blueback beach to Piper's lagoon was a great vantage point. Last year it was completely dead.

Nothing much shaping up yet. No amount of herring here yet and what is here is testing out as really immature.

It's early yet, maybe a week or so it will really start up.

Ok, well all good info. Thanks, Will have to keep an ear out for the spawn news. From past experience usually 2 or 3rd week of March.
