Looks cool. Try and resist the urge to tie a loop around the handle to your wrist to keep it from becoming a donation to the briny sea. That could send you down with it if you lose control of the cannon ball.

I had an incident off Epsom point once when it was rough. Braid failed and lost a cannonball so rerigged with a bit of slack in the braid. Did not realize the braid was wrapped around my finger and by fluke we got waked broadside by one of the asshat yachties running into Garden Bay. I lost my balance and the ball went overboard down at least 15' and then yanked me along with it. Managed to get some slack and release my peeled finger from the line with the help of my father in law who was at the wheel, half deaf and fully cut so it was sketchy. Got a cool scar to remind my dumbass about it too.

And since you already own the cord no additional expense.

Plastic snubbers are also good for handling wet, cold, & slimy DR balls.

A 4” loop of tuna cord (or thicker). Clip it right onto your terminal snap on the DR braid.

I braided some tuna chord,, loop and done. the braid is 3x, so it is easy on the hands, more so with the 20lbers

Looks like a 'bale hook' we used on the farm for grabbing hay bales.
I think I saw them at Buckerfields in the last year or so.
Any farm supply should have them.
Shop local - not everything has to come from Amazon.

Used them on the farm too, like this use better.
Shopped even more local - scrap pile behind the barn.
