Funds secured this past week. The end goal is a vast MPA encompassing some of the best fishing and trapping zones in the area. Unlike an RCA which is no fishing but allows trapping, an MPA is restricted to zero Fishing and zero trapping. No public resource access aloud. Other (Not all...) existing MPA in Canada allow First Nations, Aboriginal and Inuit food fishing. This is not a may happen, it has been a plan in the works for some time now. They will try partnering with Nanoose and Nanaimo First Nations to fast track over the next three to five years.
