Fishing method

Hi there I come from South Africa.I have been using a method in shalow water(4-12feet)for the last while.Method is as follows,intermediate line,non-wieghted fly,cast fly to target erea,wait until fly is almost at bottom,retrieve using figure of 8 technique,with middle and index fingers,slow long pull on line to prevent snagging if required,retrieve rate very slow.This is a new method I've been trying with marginal success.You guys know about this method?Feed back welcome.PS only on the net on the weekends.
