I am in the process of buying a new fishfinder.
Getting tired of all the stupid salespitches from the stores,
from salespeople that don't know how many Watts their toaster has.
I am trying to stay under 400$ .
Appreciate any sound advice.

Garmin 400C is a good bet, as is the 340C and 320C all in the 400-500 range with colour and dual freq. Some really good Lowrance Units out there as well but your looking at 700+ for a nice colour unit.

Thank's for the info. Anybody with hummingbird or eagle experience?

Whichever model you buy make sure it has 500W RMS if your boat has any type of speed or your going to loose your read on bottom fairly early up the throttle....

I have the Humminbird matrix 17...
dual beam, grey scale, works well and i don't usually lose
bottom while running.
just under 2 hundred bucks at west marine

Eagle is basically a lower end Lowrance, same company, nothing wrong with them but most models will be in monochrome, and I don't think the screen quality is quite there. Best bet is a Garmin in that price range!
