Ever Seen a Boat Burn?

That's scary stuff. Just goes to show that we should all make sure our safety gear, fire extinguishers, etc are up to date. Thanks for the reminder!! Imagine being at Big Bank and having that happen to your boat.

Maybe the big guy in the burgundy shirt got carried away with the BBQ.
The Federales didn't seem too happy either:D

Those Guys are 'Bomberos' which in English means Firemen but like here also means Emergency Personnel it's a serious job.

Big boat Fire on Saturday off Pillar Pt in Juan de Fuca st. 50' Yacht Burned to the waterline and sank. Local Sooke whalewatcher Zodiac picked the only occupant out of the water, By watching it go (big black clouds of smoke) and listening to the VHF, it was a sombre moment for us. Thank God for us, we were too slow to respond to be there quick enough. The Coast Guard had us on stand by to tow it, But it sank instead[V]

We were wiring a hi rise on the inner harbour 6 or 7 years ago.A fellow had just filled up with gas,and tried to start the boat.Kablam she blew up and burned to the water line,a little kid and the owner got burned. It looked just like those pictures, and was it hot, we could feel the heat quite aways away.I guess the blower didn't work on it is what they said. It's pretty scary in real life.DAN

I remember back about 1991 an Asian guy was fueling up his boat at the Esso dock in False Creek. He left the dock and had a small fire. Rather than put it out he jumped overboard and his boat drifted back under the wharf pilings and they caught on fire too. The whole downtown was covered in black smoke.

We had a similar accident up here on the Charlottes a few years ago. A backyard mechanic was working on a fellow's gas engine in his troller. There was an explosion in the engine room. The mechanic was lucky, just a little scorched, but the owner up deck took a little unplanned swim and had both ankles broken from the concusion....
