District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Charity Fishing Derby

Posted on September 10th 2012, by Rodney Hsu, webmaster

Vancouver anglers, are you ready to test your salmon fishing skills? North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Charitable Society will be hosting its inaugural salmon fishing derby on September 21st! The net proceeds from this event will support two well-respected community entrenched organizations - The Seymour Salmon Society (SSS) and the Athletics for Kids Financial Assistance (B.C.) Society (A4K).

Below are details of the derby:

This salmon fishing derby will take place in DFO designated Area 28 & 29.
It is opened to both shore and boat anglers.
Top three prizes will be awarded for the three largest fish of any salmon species. There will also be raffle draw prizes.
Weigh-ins, award and BBQ will take place at Lions Gate Marina (1331 Mckeen Avenue in North Vancouver, right next to the North Vancouver Air Care location). Lions Gate Marina has graciously supported this event by donation of time and the use of its fantastic new facility.
The derby starts at one hour before sunrise and the cut-off for weigh-in is at 2:00pm sharp.
Derby tickets are $60.00 each. T-shirt, burger BBQ are included, free boat launch is also available for participants at Lions Gate Marina!
You must have a valid saltwater fishing licence and salmon stamp.
To purchase a ticket, please contact Ollie Schmaler @ 778-861-5443 or Ron Johnstone @ 778-772-9444. They are also available at Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver.
For more information, please contact firefishingderby@gmail.com. Sponsors and donors are welcome!
About the Charity

North Vancouver Fire Rescue Charitable Society is a newly formed organization intent on assisting community based programs and associations.

Seymour Salmonid Society is a non-profit organization that effectively manages the Seymour River Hatchery. The addition to fulfilling its mandate through viable fish culture, habitat renewal and watershed management the SSS is fully engaged in delivering its annual "Gently Down the Seymour" educational program, a structured curriculum which is offered to schools free of charge, a program that touches the lives of between 1200 and 1500 students every year.

Athletics for Kids (A4K) is a privately funded local charity that in conjunction with academic endeavours aims to provide financially disadvantaged youth greater access to organized sport. With over 1/3rd of Canadian children unable to participate in amateur sport due to financial barriers, A4K's overarching goal is to ensure that all B.C. children have the opportunity to realize their dreams of playing amateur sports. The support of A4K is available for children from ages five through 18 currently enrolled in school.
