Depth finder problem

Hi people! Am having a problem with my depth sounder and was hoping could get some help. When my screen automatically changes depth ranges, say from 0-300 to 0-600, my actual depth reading instantly also changes anywhere from 60 to 100+ feet?? A pain in the butt sometimes especially when prawning; am I in 200' or 300' water??

Thanks
Daryl

if its set to AUTO , change it to Manual setting. If you have a weak or dirty transducer and on auto it will jump around.
turn the gain up until it just starts to clutter. of course all this depends upon what kind / make u have.
clean your transducer .

OK will try the manual mode. The transducer is always hosed off each trip and , just checked, was clean. Some small tiny pits probably due to road gravel. Is a universal Airmar P66 transducer… can't really see any problems with it?? Do these things wear out??

they dont usually wear out....make sure a good connection.
and that it is pointed in right direction and not in a cavatation area with prop or hull water disturbance.
have it pointed a little bit forward about 10 degrees.
But i think if u take off the auto setting it should do the trick
