Chum Derby. You don't want to miss this one!!!!!

Was up at Browns today and met up with SaltWater Cowboy.
Not bad in the A.M. but it cooled off in the afternoon.
4 at over 14 pounds. 2 at 10ish and a four that didn't make into the boat.

When all is said and done, I prefer Greensea to Deepwater and Plumper anytime. Less traffic and fresher fish for the most part.
Plus, 20 minutes run is time for a coffee on the way.
Yesterday was the maiden test for the new kicker too.

well as always thanx for the tips blue, paid off quite well.

with the roaring wind, we decided the tin warrior wasnt up the trek up to greansea, so we went to deepwater to start. From about 730-830 the action was good, landing 2 14 pound chums and losing another nice one. also chucked 3 bootish looking pinks, and 1 silver one. then the action died(we also had a real nice tangle), so about 11 we moved down to plumper and on a hunch switched over to green flashers.
again that paid off, first pass off the point and BOOM, 17 pound chinook in the boat. next pass, BOOM a 17 pound chum. next pass, a twin 17 pound chum. this was all around 1130-1230 with the ebb. a prior commitment forced us to leave right in the middle of the bite but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. saw a million oak bay boats going up north...
how was your fishin?

Hey Eagle Eyes:
Seems like you have found the answer! Good on you man. Maybe you could share a little more info on what was behind those green flashers. Or is this a secret between the selected few? I dont want you to give out any secret info that blue might have deemed the chosen where entitled too. But a little bit of help would be nice to the rest of us pion's. Just having fun! Eman

its not tough... blue generously shared this stuff with me last year, you can get updates from the tackle shops in CR

green plaid, chum special, or purple haze flashers

26 inch leader

pink/black or pink/blue or pink with glow dots (hot one yesterday) squirts, or smallest size purple/black apex with 36 inch leader.

medium size metallic blue spin n glo

50-90 feet

try deepwater bay on the flood, plumper on the ebb.

go nail em!

Thank's Eagle Eyes! Your info I'm sure is appreciated by all of us trying to maximize our chances of a successful outing. I would like to think, that everyone can contribute in some way. My hat's off to all of the top rods, willing to share info that took them along time to gather. And a big thumbs down to the few elitists out there that I scence would rather boast than share. With the price of fuel costs going crazy we need all of the direction we can get. So let's continue to help each other like Eagle eyes just did. Eman

I'm no top rod, this is only my second season of fishing chums, but it sure is a great fishery. and i agree hats off to those who help each other out.

E.E......great to hear that ya had fun.
And yes the painters pylons were out in force up at Greensea this morning...
once past Deepwater the water leveled off and was a most pleasent run up. Once there calm and flat for the day. All ours today were in the 14 to 16 pound range, but they do seem to be stacking better day by day.
.....And who are these elitists that won't share information?????
Why I otta.....

Went out in am couple of hits but no real hook ups Was great morning on the water here in Comox. A few other boats out but only saw one fish caught. Saw a few fish on sounder, lots of presentations but no takers. Boat ran great so can't wait to fish up in Browns on Tuesday. Great to hear that both of you, Blue Orca and Eagle Eyes had a good trip today

Eagle Maniac anytime I can help I will but there are a few people that put in more time that have more up to date info and are willing to share. Hope to see you at the derby.

Cheers MyEscape

Happy Hookin!

Kevin.....you mean there's pirates in Comox?..
Who got boarded?

Thanks Paul was tired and made a few mistakes in my post but have corrected them.LOL The only pirates we have in our waters are those pesky fish stealing seals. Everyday watch them kill salmon heading up the puntledge river.

I would add trying a med size anchovie with a tiger prawn (orange with black stripes) anchovie special teaser head. Outside of squirts, worked for me last couple of years.

so anyone been out this week?
thinkin of probly goin up agian on sat. weather permitting.
did the commercials have an opening?

I know blue's been up there lately. By the way for the derby 8 campsites already booked, a cabin, plus 4 boats with people staying on board. Over 20 people confirmed from as far away as Alberta. The list grows daily. You don't want to miss this oneThe fish planning sessions will be interesting. Anything I can answer or help with just let me know.

Cheers MyEscape

Happy Hookin!!!

Never fished that stretch of water. I've got a 14' Lund with a 20 horse. Given decent conditions I figure I should be OK.

Any thoughts ?
