Catch of the Day

elk lake fishing derby. This Saturday April 13. Tickets are $25 an adult, better get them quick, cause when I went in on Monday, they told me they had a limited number left. Biggest trout $1000, biggest bass $1000. There are some awesome draw prizes, like a brand new 1236 lowe jon boat with a brand new 4hp yamaha, on a lowe trailer. tickets can be bought at Island Outfitters, they sponsor the derby.

islander55, theres no one chironomid that is best for this time of year. I pumped a few fish on the weekend, and saw what they were eating. Unless your fishing in super shallow water under 15 ft, you will want some full sinking line without the indicator. The sinking line technique is called a deep line chironomid fishing. I was skunked 5 times before I caught my first fish on a chironomid, thats over 24hours. You have to put in the time, but once you figure out the chironomids you can get some huge fish. A guy got a 9.4lber!! out of elk fishing chironomids.

I loved fishing white poppers from my belly boat for small mouth bass. Thetis, Beaver and shawnigan all had big bass. If they weren't on the poppers yet a brown or olive leech or wooly bugger fished on an intermediate sink line along structure (downed tree/dock etc) was always very productive in April.

Id say that one was closer to 2.5 maybe 3 lbs. I was too excited and forgot to weigh it! Im going to be heading out again all week at some different spots to try for some more!

nice, still a great bass, the pics are awesome. I was thinking of fishing langford or prospect, I have had good luck at both, so I have to see how it goes. I will try get some pics
