What is your price range and where in Howe Sound are you commuting to/from?
Safety in a 17' boat in Howe Sound (and most places) is more to do with the captain and the conditions that the vessel itself.
Im going back and forth from horseshoe bay to gambier, budget is tight sub 10k. I did it for the last few years on a 14DE

Grews are good solid boats, originally built in Ontario I believe. See a good number of them on the coast here.

If this Grew 245 listing is the same type, the length overall is 26' -- a bit more than the 18 you've got.

Lots of abandoned pod projects these days. It's a sad day when someone doesn't have the money to finish, but a sign of the times. Hopefully, they get good advice and sell them for the trailer value, and fair market value for something that needs tens of thousands in labour and parts. $1 for the hulls comes to mind.
