Squamish Terminals on fire at Nexen Beach
The fire is causing heavy smoke throughout the area

The east side of the dock at Squamish Terminals is on fire at Nexen Beach in Squamish, B.C.

Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman has asked residents to clear the downtown area to avoid "smelly, dark and black" smoke from the terminal fire.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said they have moved a large, timber-carrying vessel that was docked at the terminal. The vessel was thought to be the original source of the fire.

Auxiliary fire crews from Squamish, West Vancouver, and Vancouver were called in to assist with the fire Thursday night.

The terminal is used for large vessels.

Officials say everyone was evacuated from the dock safely.Residents are reporting large plumes of smoke throughout the area.

Wow, that is major. The eggs from this year should be all hatched out by now and since the pilings are the root of the problem for the herring, this may not be the worst thing in the end(although it is obviously horrible for the overall water having all of those toxins from the burning pilings flowing into the water)....that is if they are not allowed to replace the pilings with creosote.
