Here's another case of stupidity you may not be aware of..in the Gorge area(above Colquitz Cr) a oil company was called to do a home delivery.The routine fill went wrong when the filler errored the adress of the house to be filled pumping heating oil into an adjacent house basement.The oil tank had been removed from the basement and the owner failed to remove the outside filling spout.

At least that oil was contained within the concrete foundation walls. A mess for the homeowner, but easier to clean up then when its in the ground.

Similar situation to the parents of a co-worker years ago in Port Alberni. Pops removed the oil tank from the basement for some home reno's, then had it placed on a concrete slab outside, right beside the original filler neck. Yup, the oil supplier leaned on the new oil tank, and proceeded to pump 150 gallons into the basement. It took hours to pump the oil back out, but the stench lasted for years.
