WHO warns against Trudeau Liberals' advice of mixing COVID vaccines

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been urging people all over the world to not "mix and match" different kinds of vaccines from different companies, which is something Canadian authorities have been publicly promoting as safe and effective.

The WHO's position is that there is too little data to determine how safe or dangerous mixing doses may be, or how effective it may be.

Soumya Swaminathan, the WHO's head scientist, said on video on Monday during a conference, according to Reuters:

"It's a little bit of a dangerous trend here. We are in a data-free, evidence-free zone as far as mix and match."

With such mixed messages going on, it is somewhat difficult to try and determine just who is correct these days...

I believe the WHO is still not recommending any vaccines for people under 18. Yet we were all told it’s the thing to do so ya I guess we will see how this massive experiment turns out ….

I find stuff like this very difficult to gauge...you want them to be conservative in regards to taking risks with people's health, obviously...but also aggressive in reacting to a pandemic.

The one thing I think is inescapable with the WHO (and a lot of other big orgs) is that they're clearly being deferential to China on a bunch of fronts and that's been a massive problem since day one.

Not to sound McCarthyist or whatever but there are a lot of institutions that need a SERIOUS internal audit as far as Chinese influence on their decision and policy making.

People slept on that for way, way too long.

What the World Health Organization really said about mixing COVID-19 vaccines

Canada's vaccination program is sound, experts say after WHO remarks were taken out of context

Jul 13, 2021

The World Health Organization is clarifying statements its chief scientist made on the safety and effectiveness of mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines, after comments at a media briefing were taken out of context and caused confusion.

Canadian experts have emphasized that the remarks by WHO officials were not about Canada's COVID-19 vaccination program nor did they contradict recommendations by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

What happened?

At a media briefing Monday, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, WHO's chief scientist, was answering a reporter's question about whether or not there is a need for potential third doses — or booster shots — of COVID-19 vaccines.

The question came in the wake of Pfizer's announcement that it was seeking approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make third doses.

As part of a lengthy response, Swaminathan warned against individuals deciding for themselves whether or not they need extra doses.

"There is a tendency now for people in countries with enough availability of vaccines to, you know, voluntarily start thinking about an additional dose," she said.

"It's a little bit of a dangerous trend here where people are in a ... data-free, evidence-free zone as far as a mix and match," she said. "It will be a chaotic situation in countries if citizens start, you know, deciding when and who should be taking a second, or a third or a fourth dose."

But the headline that emerged in a short story by wire service Reuters that was picked up by other media was, "WHO Warns Against People Mixing And Matching COVID Vaccines."

That sparked concern among some readers about Canada's vaccination approach, which includes mixing vaccines.
A day later, Reuters issued a clarification on Twitter.

The wire service also updated the headline on the story to read: "WHO Warns Individuals Against Mixing And Matching COVID Vaccines."

Was WHO talking about Canada?

No. Swaminathan was talking about the lack of evidence supporting the need for an additional dose after someone is fully vaccinated.

She was also emphasizing the urgent need for vaccines to get to low and middle income countries where the majority of people have not even had a first dose to protect them against COVID-19, including the delta variant.

Is WHO suggesting health agencies shouldn't recommend mixing doses?

No. In fact, the opposite is true.

"At our Global press conference on COVID 19, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan explained that individuals should not decide for themselves, public health agencies can, based on available data," WHO said in a statement to CBC News on Tuesday.

Swaminathan also sent out a tweet to clarify her position when the misleading story was shared on Twitter.

"Context is extremely important," infectious diseases specialist Dr. Isaac Bogoch told CBC News Network Tuesday.

He said WHO officials "were really referring to people who had already received, for example, a full course of a vaccine series and then were, you know, for lack of a better word, choosing their own adventure and trying to get additional doses of a vaccine."
Swaminathan said guidance on mixing and matching vaccines needs to come from public health agencies — which is exactly what is happening in Canada.

"When public health agencies and advisory committees make recommendations, including on mixed schedules, it is based on data," said Dr. Carolyn Quach-Thanh, pediatric infectious disease specialist and medical microbiologist at Chu Ste. Justine in Montreal. She is also the former chair of NACI.
"We are looking not only at immunogenicity and efficacy, but also need to make sure that the regimen is safe," Quach-Thanh told CBC News on Tuesday.

Is Canada's vaccination approach working?

Yes. Infectious disease experts and epidemiologists widely agree that it is. As more people are vaccinated, COVID-19 cases are declining rapidly across the country, as are hospitalizations and deaths.

"Completing your vaccine series by getting a second dose is essential to achieve optimal and longer-lasting protection against COVID-19 disease and associated severe outcomes," PHAC said in an emailed statement to CBC News on Tuesday.

NACI's recommendations on taking a different vaccine as a second dose were issued on June 1, based on evidence and data from other countries — which is the kind of evidence-based approach WHO's chief scientist is advocating.

Canada has been mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines for weeks based on emerging research from Spain and the United Kingdom that found combining AstraZeneca with Pfizer shots was both safe and effective at preventing COVID-19.

Because Moderna and Pfizer are both mRNA vaccines, NACI also said that they could be used interchangeably.

"Vaccine interchangeability is not a new concept," PHAC said in its statement.

"Similar vaccines from different manufacturers are used when vaccine supply or public health programs change. Different vaccine products have been used to complete a vaccine series for influenza, hepatitis A and others."

Well if this isn’t a complete flip flop of recommendations from a couple weeks ago, I don’t know what is….

B.C. COVID-19 conspiracy theorist and yoga studio owner charged with breaking quarantine law

Nov 04, 2020

Mak Parhar bragged in speech to supporters about violating rules after U.S. Flat Earth conference

A notorious Metro Vancouver COVID-19 conspiracy theorist has been charged with breaking mandatory quarantine after returning from a Flat Earth conference in the U.S.

Mak Parhar is charged with three counts of breaking the Canada Quarantine Act, according to court records, and made his first appearance in court on Tuesday.

According to his Facebook page, Parhar recently travelled to Greenville, South Carolina for an event called Flatoberfest 2020 — a gathering of conspiracy theorists who believe the Earth is flat.

Parhar made an appearance at a rally in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery on Sunday and bragged about breaking the mandatory 14-day self-isolation period upon his return to Canada.

"I'm not going to put myself in prison, because I'm a free man with god-given rights," Parhar told a small gathering of COVID-19 conspiracy theorists in a video posted to YouTube.

Court records show that he's accused of violating quarantine on Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.

In his rambling speech at the art gallery this weekend, Parhar bragged about taking off his face mask on planes to and from the U.S., and about refusing to fill out federal government quarantine forms when he landed at Vancouver International Airport.

He claimed a border agent was "rattled" by his suggestion that the Quarantine Act doesn't apply to him, and said he told them he's not legally a "traveller" or a "person" under the law.

"They're not used to people who aren't obedient little sheep," Parhar said in Sunday's speech.

The claim that he's not legally a person lines up with yet another conspiracy theory, the "natural person" argument used by certain tax evaders who say only "artificial persons" need to pay taxes or obtain a licence to drive. The argument has been rejected over and over again in Canadian courts.

Parhar also spoke in Sunday's speech about police visiting his house on multiple occasions over the weekend to fine him for breaking quarantine, and mocked an officer who revealed a relative had recently died of COVID-19.

"People don't die of COVID, because — you guys already know this — COVID doesn't exist," Parhar told his supporters.

Business licence pulled in March
Parhar has had a high profile in Vancouver-area protests against COVID-19 restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic.

In March, the City of Delta pulled the business licence for his hot yoga studio after he encouraged clients to continue attending classes, falsely claiming the novel coronavirus "cannot survive in the heat."

With his business closed, Parhar began using his studio for gatherings of like-minded people who believe COVID-19 is a hoax. One meeting in April was reported to Delta police after a video was posted online, but Chief Neil Dubord told CBC at the time that his officers had no power to take action.

Parhar also attracted the attention of police in his hometown of New Westminster in the spring after he filmed a video in which he "investigated" the COVID-19 isolation area at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Parhar's next appearance in New Westminster provincial court is scheduled for Nov. 16.

The maximum penalty for a summary conviction under the Quarantine Act is $300,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months. If the Crown proceeds with an indictment, reserved for the most serious offences, a convicted person could face a fine of up to $1 million and up to three years in prison.

Pseudolegal 'expert' banned from acting as a lawyer in B.C. courtrooms

Christopher James Pritchard claims he can fight COVID-19 rules using bogus 'common law' arguments

Jul 15, 2021

An Ontario man who claims he can help people fight COVID-19 restrictions using bogus "common law" arguments has been barred from acting as a lawyer in B.C. courts.

According to a June 24 order from a B.C. Supreme Court judge, Christopher James Pritchard is permanently prohibited from appearing as counsel, drafting legal documents or calling himself a lawyer unless he actually goes through law school and passes the bar.

The order comes in response to a petition from the Law Society of B.C., which says it became aware of Pritchard when he was involved in a civil case against provincial officials filed by Mak Parhar, a vocal member of the Flat Earth conspiracy community who has boasted about breaking COVID-19 quarantine laws.

Parhar's civil claim for "trespass," which was roundly rejected by the court, described Pritchard as his "counsellor at law" and said he has "full authority to act in all capacities for 'Parhar Court' " which is where Parhar said he wanted the case to be heard.

Pritchard appeared at a virtual pre-trial conference and spoke on Parhar's behalf in January, illicitly posted a recording of the hearing online and then asked his followers to donate to the cause, according to the law society's petition.

Pritchard, who also goes by Christopher James, markets himself as a "Canadian common law expert" and claims Canadian governments can't create laws because the only valid law comes from God in the form of the Ten Commandments.

His arguments bear all the hallmarks of an "organized pseudolegal commercial argument" — a thoroughly debunked type of legal theory favoured by fringe groups like Sovereign Citizens and Freemen on the Land — according to the B.C. judge who tossed Parhar's claim.

People who use these arguments claim they are exempt from the authority of government and the courts, and believe anyone who wants to avoid paying taxes or obtaining their driver's licence, for example, simply needs to learn the right words and phrases.

Like other pseudolegal gurus before him, Pritchard has yet to see any success in court. His arguments have been rejected by judges as frivolous and vexatious, just plain "gibberish", and in Parhar's case, "patently absurd and nonsensical."

Nonetheless, Pritchard has found a ready audience among COVID-19 conspiracy theorists and has helped a number of them across the country draft pseudolegal claims related to pandemic restrictions. He posts documents from his "case work" on his website.

Pritchard's website also includes what appears to be his response to the B.C. Law Society's petition.

The six-page document, titled "Living Testimony in the form of an affidavit," is difficult to decipher or summarize, but it appears to suggest the law society cannot take legal action against him because Pritchard has not signed a contract with it.

Pritchard's document says the law society is "using and abusing my given name without my knowledge … a form of kidnapping of assets on paper" and suggests it is violating the Palermo Protocol against human trafficking.

Fully vaccinated Americans could be allowed into Canada by mid-August, Trudeau says

Target based on 'current positive path' of COVID-19 vaccinations, PM tells premiers

Jul 15, 2021

Canada is getting ready to welcome the world again, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quietly indicated late Thursday as his office disclosed a target of mid-August for when the border might reopen for fully vaccinated Americans.

And if the current vaccination rate remains on its upward trajectory, fully vaccinated travellers from around the world could begin arriving by early September, Trudeau said during a COVID-19 status update with Canada's premiers.

The news was quietly disclosed in the final paragraphs of a readout from the Prime Minister's Office — a tactical show of modesty, perhaps, in a national capital where the scent of a looming federal election is in the air.

"The prime minister noted that, if our current positive path of vaccination rate and public health conditions continue, Canada would be in a position to welcome fully vaccinated travellers from all countries by early September," the readout says.

"He noted the ongoing discussions with the United States on reopening plans, and indicated that we could expect to start allowing fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents into Canada as of mid-August for non-essential travel."

The statement makes no mention of whether eligible U.S. visitors will be required to show proof of vaccination, a touchy subject in a country where personal freedoms are sacrosanct. The White House has already ruled out the idea of a vaccine "passport."

Trudeau also boasted Canada is leading the G20 countries in vaccination rates, with 80 per cent of eligible Canadians having received at least one vaccine dose. More than half are fully vaccinated, Trudeau said.

Pressure mounts from U.S.

Pressure has been mounting on the federal government to continue to ease the restrictions at the border, which have been in effect since March of last year. Much of it, however, has been coming from south of the border in question.

But as Trudeau is widely believed to be on his way to triggering a federal election campaign, the timing of reopening the border could be a factor in his thinking.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is just one voice in a growing chorus of U.S. lawmakers, many of them from states and districts that border Canada, who have been calling of late for non-essential travel to resume for vaccinated people.

And polls are beginning to show that the widespread opposition in Canada to easing the border restrictions, which peaked at the height of the COVID-19 crisis in the U.S., has finally started to melt.

Restrictions easing

Indeed, the reopening process has already begun: last week, the Canada Border Services Agency began exempting fully vaccinated Canadian citizens and permanent residents from a 14-day quarantine requirement.

The restrictions, imposed by mutual agreement in March of last year as the pandemic began to hit hard, have been renewed on a monthly basis ever since. They are next set to expire on Wednesday.

"The prime minister indicated that ministers would share more details on these plans early next week," the readout says.

It also says the first ministers expressed support for reopening, provided the process is accompanied by "clarity and predictability."

They also discussed working "collaboratively" on some sort of vaccine credential and system to "enable Canadians to travel internationally with confidence."

New York Rep. Brian Higgins, who has long pressed for a reopening of the border, welcomed the news.

"The finish line is finally in sight for people who have been separated from their families and properties for way too long," Higgins said in a statement.

"For Americans and Canadians who live along the border and frequently cross as a way of life, action lifting restrictions for those vaccinated can't come soon enough. This progress, following month after month of disappointing inaction, is welcome and long overdue."

Trudeau just screwing the bc tourism industry again. Now it's another month. I am all for being safe but it's getting stupid with this border thing. Thumbs down.

You watch it will open in September after season.

No it will probably stay closed. They will just say there is some new variant with an even scarier name and require a new booster for safety rather than open up.

**** Trudeau!

It’s just funny that it’s opposite of covid guidelines. Also, Port Coquitlam posted it and there’s no air quality advisories here. Kamloops and Lytton would be a different story

Spain.

Among young people the situation is alarming. The rate among young people aged 20-29 years old is now more than 3,000 infections per 100,000 over the past 14 days.

Spain surpassed four million cases of Covid-19 this week, but the number of intensive care beds used for coronavirus cases are still relatively low at 8.75%, health ministry figures showed. Nearly 50% of the population have been double-vaccinated.

It's the US tourism industry that's bucking for a border reopening - evidenced by most of the pressure coming from US politicians. Way more Canadians cross than Americans, especially outside the summer months. Not denying that some tourist operations here have strong US customer base, but this is mainly about US border states wanting Canadians back south again for perceived cheap stuff.

You just know there's an agenda when a headline implies that an agency of the UN is addressing "Trudeau Liberals". Junk journalism waving a red flag for the haters.

Too much common sense.

Just watch them pile on the bandwagon. What bandwagon? Any bandwagon, doesn’t matter so long as there is one.

Would you be able to send the link to where you got this table from?
I checked the link in reference and wasn't able to see a tabular breakdown of positive cases by the vaccinated age group. Also asked a friend who can read Hebrew to check the website and she couldn't find this info either. If such stats really exists in Israel, it'd send a rattle through all levels of the government as they're just ramping up for the 3rd dose of Pfizer.
