Hi all, although I'm a frequent reader of the forum have never posted but now need advice/recommendations for a new depth sounder.

Nothing fancy (try to keep it under $200). Just good depth & speed readouts..

i have a 17' double eagle if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance. :)

Buy pre-owned, specifically, what was once top-end but now has some years on the technology.

For instance, the Furuno FCV 600L was once top-of-the line 8 to 10 years ago, but has since been supplanted by the FCV 620 and the 585.

You can regularly find these on CL or eBay for $ 200 - 300. I just sold mine for $ 250 and the guy was thrilled, knowing he had a really good sounder at 1/3 the original price

Lowrance and Garmin---same story. At the minimum, get 600W with 50/200 Khz capabilities. If you have a good head-unit, a modest transom-mounted transducer ("puck") will work fine

Just took off my Raytheon 365 fishfinder, the power cable bit the dust. If you buy Chero's you can have all my parts for free as i am turfing the whole unit. They are a good unit.
