337 illegal crab traps pulled from Boundary Bay in 5 day operation

That's a lot of illegally set traps and look at the numbers from previous years at the bottom of the article.

I remember getting stopped by DFO out fishing in English Bay a few years back and one of the guys jokingly said "put your crab traps out off Wreck Beach as they had dumped crabs out of a large number of traps out there that day.

Good nice to see them doing something! Next they should be dragging between the north and south arm I bet there are a few hundred traps sitting there too. I would try the 60ft and 100ft contour.....

I was thinking the same thing. You would think because it was a multiple day operation that they at least did some recon.

There is an obvious reason why they are not catching them red-handed, which is the gold standard for law enforcement.
Because it will be a waste of time and effort to charge them.
Either the fines are a cost of doing business or they are going to claim some higher law.

So this is the best they can do, make it hurt them economically by taking the traps and lines.

This crap has to stop they need to get these guys and prosecute to the max, but the thing is our punishment isn’t that tough. seize their boat truck and even house. They need to do surveillance and follow these butt hats to the people who are buying the crab and go after them also. This is a major criminal operation

this made the news last nite and the interviewed officer said they didn’t even make a dent in the traps that were out there.
