2024 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

Considering heading to the sound to do some prawning so checked the regs (again) and found what appears to be conflicting directions.
What is the actual rule that will be in effect?
On the one hand, it would appear that 23-3 is closed now
On the other hand, this makes it look as though 23-3 is open after Feb 16th

23-1 to 23-3 | Season Planning | Pulse Fishing Closures - In Stuart Channel (17-5, 17-6, 17-9) Saanich Inlet (19-7 to 19-12) and Alberni Inlet (23-1 to 23-3), “pulse” fishing closures are in effect to increase prawn escapement and prawn abundance. Closed September 5 to September 15, October 1 to October 15, November 1 to November 15, December 1 to December 15, and from January 1 until further notice. Any word yet on the new road to Bamfield? $35 million went into it and it was completed in October...

Pulse fishing is in effect in all those noted areas of 23 from Sept 5 until Dec 31, then closed until they open again on April 1. Pulse fishing happens every year unless the fall spawner index demonstrates good enough results top allow those areas to remain open with usual limits and release of berried prawn. The other areas not listed as closed are open year round. The 23-3 seems to be an error...but if its in the FN as open, its open after Feb 15.
I think there’s a (somewhat) recent thread about it. I drove out there at Xmas with my old man, ands it’s a good road.

Drove it last August when it was 2/3 done...wow, what an amazing piece of work. Torture turned to LOVE! Great job on the road!
Yeah - that's the problem. It's going to be a nightmare this summer when hundreds of people show up with boats and nowhere to park trailers. The launch is also horrible on low tides and you have to begin backing up from way up the hill which is going to create confusion and gridlock. It's not really well set up like a "normal" launch. I'll pass and enjoy the beautiful Inlet run for less time and virtually the same fuel burn. Up and down passes and tight (blind) turns towing a boat to Bamfield isn't really saving much fuel

Another successful event , sold out as usual , The weather? We had a little bit of everything lol. , some really nice fish brought in this year, the biggest one being 21.5 , second place just over 19 , both caught by the same boat , congrats, Mike and Brian ,great job , Would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped, it took a lot of work on everyone’s part this year ,the Staff here at Poett Nook , Jen Nick Jay , take a bow , Ryan Craig Rod DJ Trish Doug Shauna Angelo Tracy, the list goes on , sorry if i forgot a few of you , Kaetlyn Donna the Organizers , so many others , I didn’t get to fish much, but managed to get a few , 14.5 the biggest so didn’t make the cut , a few pictures , tight lines Don
