2021 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Headed up sound today. Late start after some technical difficulties(me not the boat.) Fished from 11:15-2. Sealed on first one that looked like a keeper. Tried rodeoing over it but the bugger went straight for shore. Ended up chasing it into 10’ of water until he got wrapped on a mooring buoy. Few other unders then two keepers. Both mid 60 cm. Both very white. Crabbing and prawning was mediocre. Tried new spot that didn’t pay off but ended up with 3 crab and 60-70 or so prawns for the trifecta. Beautiful day and not many boats out. Ran small chovies. Bloody nose and herring side teaser were equal. Lemon lime and a glow/uv purple flasher.

Went up the east side of the sound today. One skinny 66cm suspended at 145’ at Newman Creek (glow hootchie) and a few unders. Beautiful day to be out.

Out Monday at Tunstall one nice keeper and 5 nice dungys. Out again today, started at Grace with no love. Moved to the Falls and had lots of action. One keeper, one released and 2 more non stickers. 4 more nice crab and about 50 prawns. All the hits were at 165 on a herring aid. The water on both days was epic. Beautiful BC at its finest.

Wow ! Beautiful fish ! Where exactly are“ the falls “ ?

#2 road and #3 road public fishing piers. south end of each road, high-mid tide. Watch for schools, cast over to them with long spinning rod and sabiki rigs, might be harder for kids, but sometimes schools are in close to dock, varies. If many people bad idea for kids - crossed lines and all, cast up current ( 11 o-clock) , drift down and repeat, pick up 2-4 fish each cast. . go high tide when miserable out. Less people. Someone said same can be done at Whiterock.
Also, at Garry Point Park in Steveston off the various points of land in between the "scalloped" beaches. Although the rip rap on the points can be tricky, and only a handful of anglers can fish each point.

It was a cold one today!! 3 unders, a couple hundred parwnies, and a decent number of crab.
Got sealed once and had a rogue snag. 2 flashers lost :(
action came on both white hootchie and a herring aid spoon on bottom. Solid day in Howe sound!

Out yesterday at the falls. Immediately hooked into a double header at 165 on Herring aide, 30 minutes later into another one. All unders and that was the end of the action for the rest of the day. Disappointing prawning, can’t seem to find the hot spot.

Apologies if this has already been asked. I see lots of posts about Howe Sound. Has anyone been fishing Sandheads or near there? That’s a quick trip for me. Thanks.

That’s a pretty quiet neighborhood for winter fishing but I guess you can always give it a try and if there’s bait around, there could be feeder fish following them.
