Hey QB I had a 17.5' double eagle prior to getting my Striper. They are good boats for their size. You will have the occational wave come over the bow but it is not a big deal.
On a flat day we have gone out to 14 mile. We did this on a buddy system with another boat. We always felt safe, our only issue with fishing the banks was our fuel supply. We had to carry extra fuel.
If you have a partner with another boat to follow you out I would fish 7 mile with not an issue.
You want 2 motors. I have been out there in a 15.6 hourston with a 70 hp evinrude. Pick the right day. People used compasses not long ago.Take a reading going out and follow it back in.Even with GPS the fog can cause alot of discomfort. The right day can be a rewarding trip. DON,T go unless you are going to enjoy yourself.
