Vancouver mayor is Crying that he needs a bail out and the city is going to go bankrupt. Threaten to shut down social programs and other things out to 2022.

But there is no money to give? We can't grant out money for free for one city. You would have to give it for very municipality across BC? Most likely have to borrow just like other businesses have too.

So I assume the first thing the mayor and council did was to vote themselves in a temporary COVID-19 salary reduction of at least 50% along with all senior department heads and city executives to share the pain with the city and lower paid staff while still being able to survive at an austere level.

Feds can just print money it’s endless

Yea because that has worked so well throughout history. Do too much of that and no other country will want your currency, accept your credit or trade with you accept goods for goods. Not to mention needing a pickup truck bed full of cash to buy an apple.

What if every other country is doing it too?

This is the plan with most right now. Generally I see summer tourism from international a complete write off. I think that will shift to local Canadian travellers, and hopefully will backfill. Still going to be an incredibly tough summer.

Totally agree for international travel. Although leaked government documents from a few weeks ago said they were initially planning on opening border to non USA countries by June 30. USA before that. Can’t see other countries being allowed in but tell me if you think trump will allow the USA border to be closed all summer. Nope.

Ive been trying to figure out for week now when some of that will happen and the goal posts move on a daily basis.

No one has a clue

June 8th was a date the US has put out that they could see some states move into phase 1, Phase 1 is still super restrictive

I wonder how long Tofino and Ukee can hold out financially up there. Going to be interesting how that plays out. I see Crystal Cove is saying they are re-opening middle of May?

Tofino and Ukee are very clear on no non essential traffic to the coast. Yes some places have a set open date for bookings as we do in hopes things open up. With that said like March, April and May we had to cancel all bookings due to travel restrictions which may continue further into the future for as long as needed as per the health officials. The line share of locals on the ground are extremely supportive of closing down the coast in support of the health care system and the higher risk population.

There was talk on the radio station with mayors that if any tourism business runs they will look into pulling there business license but for now 99.99% of people have been compliant with out any bylaw intervention.

Everyone wants to get back to work and tourism happening again but the coast understands what's important right now and are on side with supporting the Provinces effort 100%. Businesses are suffering but the one thing the coast has going is rents aren't anything near Vancouver prices and with the financial aid the government is offering should fair pretty good I think.

They said they will keep printing as long as needed. Canada does well with a weak dollar, good for manufacturing of local resources, exports and good for tourism. Some sectors may get a negative effect.

Guess who picks up the tab ?
It will be a lengthy process as well !

pretty much every party is on board with this, they were saying even the watch dogs that would normally be up in arms are not making a peep right now.

for now we are in survival mode, without the printing presses at full bore and new billions announced every day we would be done.

Is what it is unfortunately, it will take time for sure. But there is always some positives in every negative whether it's lessons learned etc or new doors opening while others close. Trying to look at the glass half full and at the end of the day taxes will always remain we will never be a tax free society.

Saw that Ukee Town Council has openly stated NO Non-Resident Fishing License Sales will be available there?
Guess that means they mean the Stay Away message?

Yes they have a very know line drawn in the sand but I think it's pretty much the same in all small tourist towns. Saw Renfrew has taken a hard line as well, no one wants an out break in their small town there's one grocery store and limited resources would be a mess if that happened and would create even a longer closure of tourism versus stay the course until the time comes when we can all open in a measured way that's safe.
