Island Health’s Medical Health Officers say people must practice social and physical distancing at all times; this is not optional. This applies to everyone, regardless of age or health status.
Social and physical distancing means limiting close contact from others by staying 2 metres away from others outside our homes, using virtual options to connect with others, limiting shopping to only essential outings, avoiding large gatherings, and staying home if you are sick. Island Health emphasizes that local transmission is occurring across the Island Health region, and advising people to assume there are cases in every community.
Island Health is reminding people that the Provincial Health Officer has ordered all personal service establishments to close until further notice, and has ordered all restaurants to move to take-out or delivery model or close.

I’m on the mainland and none of my sites have shut down. Some have special parameters but nothing has been locked up yet. I also have some work that I can’t see ever being shut down right now. Abbotsford urgent care centre. Abbotsford hospital emergency expansion. Langley memorial expansion. Peace arch hospital expansion. A daycare at ubc. New private school in Vancouver. I can’t see any of my projects being stopped so we are full steam ahead and our guys are off for 14 days if they get a sickness. I own a commercial glazing business so basically all the workers are within 6’ of each other. All the crew got half masks respirators. Usually $35 a mask, now for the special corona virus price of $59.99 at summit tools haha. We do what we can. The show goes on.I Took the Crane to Tofino today with some commercial roofing (torch on) , the site i was at is scrambling to get a vapour barrier on the roof before a possible shutdown. I Think it is time for the government to narrow down what is considered an essential service and have everyone else stay at home.. Construction companies on the mainland have been shutting down time for the island to follow suit.. sooner we all stay home the sooner we can all get back to work. I am really close to refusing work to protect my family... Sad it has to come
To that.
Why are people freaking out about cars parked close together? As long as the occupants aren't playing Twister who cares?
Just as at the grocery store lot, I think most of us can manage to maintain physical separation at any other parking lot. If anecdote means anything, I was at the boat ramp 2 days ago and observed ample physical separation by the boaters, except for obvious family members. I'll model adequate physical separation at the boat ramp again tomorrow.Because the evidence is rather clear. When cars are together in quantity like in a park parking lot, the drivers and passengers of those vehicles are also together with other drivers and passengers and while they may not be playing twister they are doing many things that are almost as bad for virus transmission. Many if not most sure as hell have not been observed maintaining 6.5 feet distance from each other.

Over one million applications for EI in the last couple of days.
System ENTIRELY flooded.
Average call lasts 10 - 15 minutes wandering down the rabbit hole - entering information etc - only to be told "Due to the high volume of calls we are unable to take your call". CLICK.
Rinse and Repeat...
Second day thereof...
Disgusted,
Nog
Some business guys I know got rejected already from BDC , so that wasn't a surprise. I never heard anything, and trying banks now. A lot of them are locked with financing as the system is just getting overloaded. I think business and the owners are on their own from what I have found. I am getting prepared as back up to go work somewhere until this blows over. Maybe I will stock groceries?
I also have my name on the government emergency list to manufacture items for the COVID 19 response if needed.
As soon as we have the tag “business” attached to our name we are automatically the big evil corporate pigs and will be last in line.
Have you tried doing it all online Nog, not exactly sure how it works but I think it can all be done.
Will that be maintained after the all clear? This here. I was in the office yesterday from 630 am until 2:15 am and back at 7:10 this morning. It has been this way through three weeks and while it feels crushingly busy, we have a core of 6 in divided over 6,000 sq ft with the balance of 18 under "work from home" status. It was one call to the bank for kicks and they added another $100k flat out to the LOC, said that was policy across the board for those who called in. This is not one of the big banks but a really big regional CU. Your mileage may vary...I am not expecting anything from the Feds, or the Provincial gov't but a waste of time so I am 100% focused on the clients we have who need our help, and hopefully our strategy will keep the staff safe, healthy and engaged so we can make this pig fly again one day. Good luck to you all.
