As the winds weren’t looking promising for my only free day this weekend, which would be Sunday....I decided to head out to Thrasher straight from work today...
Fished from 615-830pm
Water depth 200-300
Rigged Depth 100-120
Fished 3.5” Spoons
Hooked into 10+
Landed 8
6 were easily keeper size
All Chinook
As I was fishing solo and releasing off the side of the boat, I wasn’t really paying attention to whether they were clipped.
Currently tied up at Silva Bay.
Will wake up early and hopefully fish from 6-10am...told the boss that I would be at work by 12pm :)
Will let you all know how tomorrow morning goes.
Cheers
You're a champ. I'm jealous.

Well this morning didn’t go as well as planned....winds picked up and last night unbeknownst to me one of my riggers back spooled on itself and I wasn’t able to cure it in the 2’ chop on my own...
Same details as last night regarding depths etc...
Fished from 615-730am...it was just not easily manageable on my own...
Hooked 3 and landed 2
1 was my biggest of the season at what I’m guessing was a low teen.
Hopefully make it out next week or next weekend :)...hoping the size of fish keeps increasing with the times...till then tight lines guys...
Cheers

Did you lose the ball and rigger cable or....?

Heard those winds looked nasty....been watching all week with anticipation of heading to Nanaimo tomorrow, really hope they die down enough by late afternoon tomorrow (like EC says it will)....

U fished the hump?

How big for hootchies? I am thinking about a single siwash. Would you shorten up your leader to account for the additional weight? I normally run mine 36" from the nose of the hootchie to the swivel but have been advised to run them shorter on bigger cuttlefish guys

we used number 5 stainless for coho and number 7...yes 7...for chinook with a normal octopus hootchie...
36-38in for coho and 40-45 in for chinook...they fish just fine...
hooks sharp like a needle.

Probably going fair bit quicker than a sporty troll!

I go with a 32-36” leader and troll 2.5-3.0 kn (assuming no other wind / current variables)

No

No I didn’t lose any gear...just as I mentioned, the rigger back spooled onto itself...must have happened the night before when I brought it up the last time...had I caught it while at the dock that night I could have cured it, but with the waves being a little bigger in the morning I couldn’t let go of the wheel long enough to deal with it...hard enough trying to drop gear without being turned around...
Yup winds not looking all that good for a little bit...best of luck on your run to Nanaimo...easily still possible, but it will be slow and choppy :/

Thanks for the luck crossing tomorrow...hopefully I won't need it but I'll take all I can get...o_O

fished HITW from 2-4pm... 0 hits and only 12 prawns total in a 2.5 hour soak, looks like prawning season is over for me
A. I don't prawn during the commercial opening
B. I've never had much success with anything less than a 5 hour soak.

Some deadly fishing over at thrasher this weekend. Weather was off and on but we had hot fishing on the reef Saturday weaving in and out of the commercial prawn traps, lost count, 6 inch spoons on the bottom, all legal sized fish. Sunday morning in the wind we fish offshore flat tops with similar results but 50/50 legal and just undersized fish .

Any luck with naked spoons or were you fishing in line flashers?
