2nd Annual SFBC Derby

Ok don't all throw stones here .. but why not try a derby in a derby for now? There seems to be a few members doing the loggers derby. Meet up toss a few bucks in the pot winner take all. Do this at all the established derbys we participate in . Eventually the organisers of the already established ones would have a SFBC slot, why not it would just add another angle to their show.

I am not throwing stones...... Very true I am not a derby guy. So my thought would be that a guy who like derbies should host it his way. Come on Duffer make it happen..... :)

As a rec. sports fisherman I spend way to much time fishing year round, well others have their boats in storage. Well the boat is at rest one would think it would give a guy more opportunity to organize such an event. :)

Very true it was discussed locally by a few members and it was decided that no one had the time or the contacts to make it happen. Besides with all the loud mouths whimpering down south I at least thought it was best they hold it.

I do like the idea using other derbies. Maybe we could enter our derby entered fish to someone in charge. That person could set up boundaries so we are not competing with hog areas/fish of a life time locations. Courtenay fish and game hosts a members only entry weigh in why can't we. Fish could be officially weighed in at a lodge or store same day caught and be documented and a submitted. Entry into the derby could have a buy in of say May 1st and go thru Sept. 30th. Everyday you fish you are competing. Have some hidden weight prizes etc. No moorage needed, no hotels or campsites, no extra pressure on certain areas. I think someone on this site could organize such a derby and set up some guidelines.

If you don't like derby's and aren't a Derby guy Owen, why do you have so many points and opinions to make about them? lol....you've got some good ideas posted above by why should someone else have to follow through...your lead melts were a success, keep that lead ball rolling and organize SFBC Comox with the many groups you have mentioned.

Sounds like the people who couldn't be pleased sunk this Nanaimo derby. FW made a hell of an effort, but no body could come to agreement. I saw so many people saying simply "no this date wont work for me" or something along that line...a shame that it failed in Nanaimo, it would have been great. Very central to many members, both on the island and the mainland...

I don't see who would want to take on the task of this derby after seeing the ******** the organizer has to put up with....no matter how good the event, people will still complain. Just look at Profisher's tireless efforts on the 2nd Banana challenge and the flack it has taken on page 1! We should be so lucky guys like that stand up and follow through. Talk is cheap and on the forum, these guys proved their wealth!

I look forward to doing my best to attend the Banana event in Sooke, and hopefully an SFBC event. Looking back over the last two years, 2 widely recognized events were born on SFBC more or less. The Banana Challenge and the Tuna Shootout will very likely become two of the most popular and talked about Derbies on the West Coast of Canada. The support from this website is a big part of that.
A little more support is needed, rather than the negative "what suits me best" attitude that lingers around on here...

A internet derby in my opinion just isn't the same not realy meeting other people face to face with that format.
Your entry could include a BBQ and award ceremony to be held at the end of the season when were not fishing. If you don't attend that's your choice.

Coud have a early bird sign up prize of free entry. Say it starts May1st have a early bird by signing up before April 1st.

Could open a new thread for prize donations....and set a person to accept donations to be awarded to the wieners.

There's 795 active members even if 25% agreed to enter that 200 people say at $40-50 each. That's $8-10g plus it may get new members to join SFBC.

Cant see why it couldn't happen.

I would be up to assist where ever I can from Port Alberni area. Guess there should be a bit of structure though. At least a member for a few days before the weigh in. I would sleep better at night if the loot went towards some sort of re stocking program.

I think a membership at least a week old is good enough if we are trying to gather more members. Another idea ?? the marinas and lodges etc that advertise here should maybe be considered as official weigh stations ??? season long??

Any other ideas or volunteers what's everyone think?

Congrats girls on the Gold! Good comeback!

Damn it Cliff!!!!!!!. May a thousand P- cod keep all the salmon away from your lines this year!!!I managed to make it all day without knowing the outcome . Thought I was safe on a thread about derby's????

Bad on you!!! LOL Going to watch it anyway .

Back to derby topic.

How about a month long derby outta Nanaimo?
May, 40$ buy in with 40%,25% and 15% going to the top 3 winners and the remaining 20% going to the. Local hatchery.
Have a BBQ windup at the end to award the prizes???

I think there is too many moving pieces for a derby like that to succeed. How about a month long derby outta Nanaimo?

But then your putting pressure on one area and people have to travel to take part..... Only people who would win from something like that would be someone living and fishing in Nanaimo

Funny how the action on this thread ramped up then everything died at 4:20
